SEMENYIH POLLS | PSM has described Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s statement that voters should not waste their ballots on the opposition as a BN era threat.
The party’s central committee member S Arutchelvan also criticised the Pakatan Harapan chairperson for resorting to cheap political stunts.
He noted how during the BN administration, voters were warned that supporting the opposition would be at the expense of development in their constituency.
“This is gutter politics and cheap politics,” he told a press conference in Semenyih this afternoon.
“Are they (saying) no health clinic will be constructed if BN or PSM wins?” he asked, referring to the pledge to build the clinic by Harapan candidate Muhammad Aiman Zainali.
Speaking at a ceramah in Semenyih yesterday, Mahathir said votes should not be wasted on BN candidate Zakaria Hanafi since he would not be able to fulfil his election pledges because the coalition no longer controls the federal government.
Met later, Zakaria disagreed with Mahathir.
He said voting for BN would be a referendum against Harapan for not fulfilling the promises in its election manifesto for the 14th general election.

“Their votes will not be squandered. This is a democracy and this is the time for them to (demonstrate) people power,” he said.
He pointed out that Harapan has failed to fulfil many of its promises stated in its manifesto.
As such, he said the people should not be afraid to cast their ballots.
Meanwhile, PSM candidate Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul urged Mahathir to refrain from saying that the opposition will not be able to fulfil its promises.
It is Harapan that is unable to fulfil its pledges, even making U-turns (on some policies), he said.
